02:53 pm - HELP GET "ESCAPE FROM DULLSVILLE" PRINTED!
About a week ago I finished my newest graphic novel, a 288 page book collecting all 7 issues of my comic “Life of a Fetus.” The collection, "Escape from Dullsville" contains over 80 pages of new material including the previously unpublished L.O.A.F. issue 8.
Unfortunately, pre - orders were not high enough for my publisher SLG Comics to justify printing the book just yet, so unless i can raise enough pre-order sales quickly it might NEVER BE PRINTED
That’s where you come in! My hope is to get everyone who would normally buy the book when it comes out to preorder it from Amazon.com ASAP! If we can get enough pre-order sales the book WILL BE PRINTED! If you can pass this message along to anyone you think would be interested in it, that would help a lot too!
Not only is it super easy to preorder the book from Amazon, you’ll be getting the book at $6 less than the cover price! Just click the Amazon links in this post. Amazon will not charge you until the book ships so if the book never gets printed you won't ever be charged.
As a bonus, if you email me a photo of yourself holding the book, I’ll will personally send you an original sketch of a character of your choosing from "Escape from Dullsville!" I'm sure with your help we can this thing printed lickety splits.
You can read the press release for more information about the book here, or puruse the images below.
Thanks again for your support!

Escape from Dullsville
It all starts when a claustrophobic fetus, tired of its surroundings, decides to make an early exit. Setting in motion an avalanche of bizarre happenings. Soon the fetus becomes embroiled in the plots and schemes of the likes of little green men, mad scientist puppets, government cover-ups, jet-packed babysitters, strange cults, anarchists, beatniks, psychotic magicians, truckers, and crazy mothers, as it goes on the most wigged-out of road trips through the good ol' U.S. of A.

It all starts when a claustrophobic fetus, tired of its surroundings, decides to make an early exit. An avalanche of bizarre happenings follows because, after all, a single extraordinary circumstances tends to allow for more incredible circumstances to happen. In Escape from Dullsville by Andy Ristaino, due out from SLG Publishing in December, the precocious fetus becomes embroiled in the plots and schemes of the likes of little green men, mad scientist puppets, government cover-ups, jet-packed babysitters, strange cults, anarchists, beatniks, psychotic magicians, truckers, and crazy mothers, as it goes on the most wigged-out of road trips through the good ol' U.S. of A. Escape from Dullsville, a 288-page black-and-white graphic novel, collects the entire run ofAndy Ristaino's comic Life of a Fetus, which was published by SLG from 1999 to 2001. It also features more than 80 new pages, including the previously unpublished issue eight, "Little Billy and Dr. Otto" comic strips, and background material. A hefty dose of of science fiction, politics, non-linear storytelling and innovative art, Escape from Dullsville tells an extraordinary story as only Andy Ristaino ( The Babysitter) can concoct. "Escape from Dullsville combines all of the genres I like," said Ristaino. "Crazy road trip movies, sci fi, '60s exploitation, comedy. It's basically a jumble of cult movie culture. The comic was designed around creating a universe that could change and grow as my ideas changed and grew," he explained. "A place to put any and all characters I created and a platform on which they can all exist at once, in a kinetic mental jumble with fluidity of storytelling, both visual and textual." Escape from Dullsville can be pre-ordered at comic book stores now with the Diamond code OCT090664. Its ISBN is 978-1-59362-182-7. Established in 1986, SLG Publishing is a San Jose, CA based publisher of comic books, graphic novels and related merchandise. Some of SLG's more notable comics and creators have included Johnny the Homicidal Maniac by Jhonen Vasquez, Milk and Cheese by Evan Dorkin and Zombies Calling by Faith Erin Hicks. 11:44 am - hourly comic day... So yesterday was hourly comic day...which means that you try to draw a comic every hour you are awake and it always takes place on febuary 1st. The superbowl was also yesterday and we had a superbowl party at my house so the day pretty much focused mainly on that. I'm not that big a football freak but can get into a game if i watch it. it's also a good excuse to grill, chill with friends, and get rowdy. You can see more hourly comics from around the world here. Below is mine. (click on the images to see a larger version.)

Hi-fructose vol. 10 and Coilhouse issue02 are availible at your local magazine spot now. I was very happy to leaf through (and purchase) these great magazines both featuring guest appearences by the Babysitter (which is currently on sale at the slg website. I was honored to have Attaboy of Hi-Fructose magazine review the Babysitter in issue 10. the review went something like this. (and i quote) "With his new The Babysitter Collection, Andy Ristaino shows that his mind's eye is a limitless anti-void, constantly surprising us at its reach. Sure, some of his work takes work to figure out. But it's always worth it. And for those who can't summon the synapses to focus on the story can just peel back their eyelids a page at a time, suck a thumb, and get lost in the purty picture spreads at a measured pace. In Babysitter, Andy grabs the now common "Japanese schoolgirl" theme and holds it at ransom, as Ristaino approaches the comic format like no other, at least not since the days of Little Nemo in Slumberland. His boxes aren't just storyboard containment devices, so much as constructed boxes. Platforms with dimensioin: portals from which his stories constantly spill out and borders offf of with his characters bounce their diatribes. This makes the nature of his projects more Charlie Kaufman-esque than anime-inspired. the characters are conscious enough of these boxes to physically use them, but don't care to "wink" at us. Ristaino's previous Slave Labor Graphics series, Life of a Fetus, a graphic novella about a um...runaway fetus, always left me wide-eyed, bewildered and awestruck. And i'm guessing i wasn't alone, as SLG decided to print a Guide to Life of a Fetus to reveal the series' many Naked Lunch-type turns and narrative trickery. With literally hundreds of character extras, guest cameos, and multi-dimensional planetary chaos, a Ristaino book shows the universe to be a very crowded place and his babysitter's world expands just as the story does. And like the real world, if you focus to hard, you'll miss something " here's the review in the back of vol.10 AND... as i've mentioned in a previous post, my good friend Meredith interviewed me for Coilhouse issue 02 I'm not going to type out the interview but let me say there are some nuggets to be found in the interview and coilhouse is an awesome magazine.
below are the pages in coilhouse.

01:53 am - noisvani...
Dan Vado of slg publishing offered to do a run of 3 color shirts for an art opening i'm having in February at the slg boutiki gallary.Well back in college i was pretty obsessed with aliens. Did a big run of images of aliens doing different kitschy things. Among those images was the classic aliens playing poker. so i am resurecting a certain design and making it conform to t shirts. which do you like better? i'm leaning towards version 1 at the moment. version 1 version 2 version 3 here's the one i did in college thanks happy new year!

01:18 pm - babysitter recommended!

i was surprised as anyone to find that my book "the babysitter" made i09's 10 graphic novels that make thrilling gifts list. TOTALLY AWESOME! io9 is a webblog dedicated specifically to science fiction.
Graeme McMillian says " You probably won't have heard of Andy Ristaino's mind-bending story of Setsuko Kagaku, the Japanese schoolgirl who happens to be the world's greatest babysitter, but once you've seen this amazing, mind-bending book that gleefully rewrites the rulebook on how comics work and questions the nature of reality, you'll never be able to forget it."

Also Andrew Farago was kind enough to ask me to participate in the Bay Area Young Cartoonist Panel with some other cool artists on Sunday.
3:45-5:00 The Bay Area’s Young Cartoonists: 2008—Think the San Francisco comix scene hit its peak in the 1960s? Think again. Moderator Andrew Farago of San Francisco's Cartoon Art Museum interviews Rina Ayuyang (Namby Pamby, Doodle Daze), Andy Hartzell (Fox Bunny Funny), Briana Miller (simple, still), Thien Pham (Thien Pham, Awesome), Andy Ristaino (The Babysitter), and Jason Thompson (Manga: The Complete Guide) about their comics and the ins and outs of the Bay Area creative community.

Posters, prints, records, comics, a new artbook, zines, tshirts, cards, shrinky dinks, and probably some artwork as well. I'm planning on have a very limited run of one or two different types of shirts at the show. limited number because i'm printing them up myself in the garage. If they sell well i'll definitely print more. Below is one of the designs you! (the colors on the final shirt might be different) hope to see you there!
